In January
2004 we came to Bolivia and decided to live in Santa Cruz. This city
has a population of 1.4 million people. We live in the south of
the city where we rent a small house.
We came to Bolivia because we wanted to work voluntarily in a german congregation
doing missionary work.

Since we wanted to stay here we
began to start a small export trade. Since handicrafted articles from leather
or
textiles
are popular with the tourists, we decided to distribute these articles
to Europe. Our focus was to support people in this country with their handiwork.

We noticed that more and more
similar machine-made products from Brazil or even from Asian countries
are sold in the market here for cheaper prices, this unfortunately
means that the rural population is deprived of their market.Therefore
our primary goal
was
to sell
handicrafted
products. First of all we began a nerve-racking journey through the jungle
of bureaucracy
to register the export trade here in Bolivia.

We searched out reliable partners
where we could buy our products. Then we wrote mainly to retailers and
wholesalers
in Europe that we we had found who could act as resellers. We looked
for economical but secure forwarding possibilities and prepared catalogues.
So

SWDL Webmasters meeting with Boma's team in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Over a period of 6 months, we discussed the options for the Boma website, the goal was to produce a website that would be Javascript Databased and it can be used on a laptop without connection and without need of a plugin like Adobe Flash. It can also be very easily updated by the Boma team themselves (just an MS Access File) without the need of contacting Site Web Developers Ltd.
